Blagoveschensk
I must say, I live in Blagoveschensk in the Far East. It’s the main town of Amurskaya Region. So Blagoveschensk is its business, industrial, economical and shopping center.
It’s interesting to point out that Blagoveschensk lies on the banks of two rivers: the Amur and the Zeya. It is on the border of two states: Russia and China. You see, it’s separated from China by the river Amur.
Of particular interest is the fact that first Cossacks landed on the Amur in 1856 and founded the first Village Ust-Zeyskaya. And after 2 years it became a town and was renamed into Blagoveschensk. We celebrate its birthday in June.
Modern Blagoveschensk is famous for many things. First of all it’s the town of students. There are three universities, the Medical Academy, the military institute, many colleges and schools.
Blagoveschensk is not the biggest town in the Far East, but it’s one of the most beautiful towns, especially in late spring and summer, when everything is green and in bloom. Its streets are straight, long and wide. There are a lot of beautiful modern buildings as well as old ones. We have two parks, where people like to spend their days off or evenings.
We can’t help admiring Lenin Square with a nice fountain and Victory Square with the monument to the perished in World War II. Citizens of Blagoveschensk and visitors have many department stores, big and small shops and several markets at their disposal to do shopping.
Blagoveschensk is the main cultural center of the area. It has several cinemas one of the richest museum in the Far East, the Drama theatre, the Puppet Theatre, the Philharmonic Society, where different concerts and performances take place.
Of course, like any other town it has its own problems, for example, traffic and public transport, roads, pollution and so on, but in spite of it, the town is beautiful and it attracts many tourists to do sights of our town.
